Healthy Tip 2: Foot Problems? Use Mouthwash!

Always keep your feet on the ground. Well if you ask me, keeping those parts always in contact with the ground makes them susceptible to unflattering conditions. Conditions that are challenging and awkward, not to mention, comes with expensive treatments. But did you know that there’s a certain article at home that is quite effective and economical. I’m referring to your regular mouthwash. Mouthwash, with or without alcohol, contain a very strong anti-septic property that will help you cure those nasty foot ailments.

I have decided to focus on the home regimen for the top 3 foot conditions: Toenail Fungus, Athlete’s Foot and Cracked Heels.

Toenail Fungus

You Will Need
1.    Mouthwash (preferably with alcohol)
2.    Basin (preferably the one that can accommodate both feet)
3.    Lukewarm Water
4.    Towel
5.    Nailcutter or Clippers (optional)

Steps
1.    In a basin, prepare 50ml/200ml mix of mouthwash and lukewarm water.
2.    Submerge the affected foot to the mixture (Be sure to test the water temp before submerging your feet).

3.    Let it sit for 30-45 minutes or longer.
4.   Use the clean towel to dry it off. (Don’t include the used towel to other laundry items and never reuse it which will defeat the purpose of stopping the progression.)
5.    Do it once a day for three weeks, preferably at night time.
6.  You can start trimming the edges of the affected toe nail once you see it drying it out. (Disinfects clippers after every use.)

Athlete’s Foot

 You Will Need
1.    Mouthwash (preferably with alcohol)
2.    Cotton ball

Steps
1.    Do it after every shower and let your feet dry off totally before applying the mouthwash.
2.    Soak the cotton ball with mouthwash liquid.
3.    Apply it the soles of the foot first then move to the toes and the spaces between them. (You can use 2 to 3 cotton balls on each foot for the application. This will ensure total coverage of the surface area.)
4.    Let your feet dry off totally before putting on socks or shoes. (Moist environment are good environments for the fungal growth.)

Dry and Cracked Heels

You Will Need
1.    Mouthwash (preferably with alcohol)
2.    Shaving Cream
3.    Basin
4.    Lukewarm Water
5.    2 Hand Towel
6.    Cling Foil or Plastic Bag
7.    Foot Cream

Steps
1.    In a basin, prepare 50ml/50ml mix of mouthwash and lukewarm water.
2.    Soak the two hand towels on the mixture for 1-2 minutes.
3.    While waiting, start applying shaving cream to the feet, focusing more on the heel and the sole of each foot.

4.    Wrap the soaked hand towels to each foot and reinforce it with a cling foil or a plastic bag.

5.    Let it sit for 30-45 minutes (preferably 30 minutes).
6.  Unwrap feet and start scrubbing with the soaked towels or if you have a good pair of foot scrubbers then that would be better.

7.    Rinse thoroughly the feet and let it dry off completely.
8.    Apply a liberal amount of foot cream to moisturize it.
9.    Do it once a week, preferably during weekends.
